Medieval Protective Gear

The chainmail coif was just part of a whole range of medieval protective gear. There were also fantasy swords, helmets and shields. Not just anybody could wear these special wear. An untrained male trainee would be made to wear a simple linen shirt and wool pants. Once knighted, he became someone of importance.

A knight had to dress like one. It was a way of distinguishing him from the rest of society. Knights were members of the ruling class. He had to live up to that standard. So, it was not just the outside look that changed, it was his whole being and way of life.
