The History of Samurai Swords
The Samurai were members of the military class of Japan. They were famous for the weapons that they used that were very important to them. A Samurai believed that his swords hold his soul. The Samurai was supposed to be respected; they could fight, in fact, execute anybody who did not accord them proper respect. This was his way of testing the quality of his swords.
Samurai had different kinds of swords. The most popular of the samurai swords was the katana, a long sword that was the symbol of the samurai. In peacetime, they carried two swords. One was the katana and the other is a short sword called wakizashi. In war-time, he carried a long sword, tachi and a short sword, tanto. Authentic, handmade samurai swords are available for sale. They are a great hit with collectors.
