My parents have three grandsons. When I was pregnant with my second child everyone was hoping my baby would be a girl. She would have been the first granddaughter. I had no preference; all that mattered was that my baby would be healthy. After months of anticipation we finally learned we were having a girl. A few days after our announcement, my sister told me that my mother started looking at wooden doll houses for my daughter’s nursery.

My sister and I grew up with wooden doll houses. They were so charming and were such a classic. Today’s doll houses are mostly made of shiny, smooth sturdy plastic. They look so much more colorful and have all sorts of cool accessories. They have several compartments, doors, gardens, roof decks and even bathroom fixtures!
