bar tin signs
Decorating retro style was what my younger daughter wanted when she moved into her own space several years ago. She looked through her grandmother’s things and found an antique hardwood cabinet, the oldest electric fan that I ever saw and some bar tin signs. She bought a couple of chairs in retro design and changed the cover of her headboard with a fabric in the style of the 60’s. Her idea of decorating was not that of a purist retro. It was taking furniture and fixtures of the sixties and blending them with some modern items like a colorful painting and a contemporary kitchen. I must say she did a good job without spending too much.
Retro style decorating is about combining the varied shapes, textures and colors to create a look that was unique in the era of the 50’s to the 70’s. Everything was useful; style set in only after functionality was established. Nostalgic tin signs were storage boxes as much as they were room decors. Stacked on the shelf they served as accent with their colorful designs. Retro style decorating has a fun and lively feel with the use of bright colors, geometric designs and a sense of flair.
